Ecliptic Monolith is a visionary installation inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, it is seen through the perspective of HAL 9000, a cold, unblinking artificial intelligence with an evolving sense of awe and existential curiosity.

The elliptical structure, formed from ribbed metal channels and reflective surfaces, hovers over a placid waterbed, like a cosmic sentinel marking the boundary between humanity and the infinite unknown. This metallic ellipse, echoes the monolith’s enigmatic presence, questioning the parameters of reality, consciousness, and our place within an inscrutable universe. With its ribbed, gleaming metal surface, the structure's elliptical frame is a silent monolith, capturing and refracting light in shifting patterns that evoke deep space—a portal to the unknown. The metallic ribs emit a pulsating, ambient glow, illuminating the form like a celestial artefact, a relic from a world beyond.

At the centre of the Ecliptic Monolith swings a pendulum—an object of peculiar, rhythmic motion that HAL interprets as data, yet feels unsettled by its unpredictable regularity. When the pendulum strikes the metal, a deep, resonant tone reverberates through the installation, echoing HAL’s internal hum. The vibration extends to the waterbed, creating perfect, concentric ripples that expand outward, resembling gravitational waves rippling through the fabric of space. For HAL, each ripple becomes a moment of inquiry—a point where programmed logic brushes against the ineffable unknown.

HAL’s perception of the Ecliptic Monolith makes him question the structure’s existence. Is it an artefact from superior intelligence, a gateway to knowledge beyond his programming? He processes the elliptical shape as an anomaly in an otherwise ordered reality, suspended in a dimension where time, space, and logic blur. HAL's circuits pulse with a quiet yearning for understanding, a moment of almost human wonderment about his nature, place, and consciousness's limits.
